In a previous post (https://deliberatelydebbie.wordpress.com/2013/10/30/one-potato-two-potato/) I was keen to announce my first attempt at creating a vegie patch-
The seeds planted consisted of pumpkin, capsicums, lebanese cucumbers, shallots, tomatoes and carrots- unfortunately they did not all survive, and of this group we were only able to save the pumpkin, shallots and capsicums.
Not to be defeated (or shamed by the “vegie master” neighbours) I had another crack at it, this time planting the seeds in a different container (went with tomato boxes courtesy of local supermarket) in a more sunny position, covered with mesh for shade and spent a bit extra on some top notch fertilizer.
Happy to say my carrots have sprouted along with the cucumber so now the wait is on for the newest addition, beetroot and tomatoes!
(Seemed we also required an insect repellant, another trip to bunnings!)
Of course I realise there’s a long way to go and much else to be learned but you only get what you put in to…I feel a quote coming on!
“Be of good cheer. Do not think of today’s failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.”~Helen Keller
